We’re onto the 3rd pick in our Reader Determined Mock Draft. Earlier in the week the readers selected Aaron Curry for the Detroit Lions with the #1 pick. The first of the talented Left Tackles came off the board when Jason Smith from Baylor was grabbed by the St. Louis Rams. Over the weekend, we’ll see who the readers have in mind for the Kansas City Chiefs. Who is new GM Scott Pioli going to go with?

Tell Me Something Good:
The trade for Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel went a long way towards helping the Chiefs get back on their feet. Cassel gives them the franchise quarterback they’ve been looking to acquire for a few decades and Vrabel gives them a veteran presence and leadership that they have desperately needed (no offense Donnie Edwards). The addition of Cassel to an already decent running game should mean more points for the boys from Arrowhead next year.
What Sucks? Defense. It was bad. Really bad! The only thing that the defense had going for it last year was that the Lions defense was historically bad. Any other year, they would have easily been in the basement for total defense. So I guess they had that going for them.
Biggest Needs: The most glaring weekness on the defensive side of the ball was the lack of pressure they were able to get on the opponents quarterback. They only had 10 total sacks for the entire team! To put that in perspective, 12 guys had double digit sacks last year– and DeMarcus Ware had twice as many sack by himself than the entire Kansas City team! I’m guessing they wished they could have had Jared Allen and his 14.5 sacks back.
