I Might Just Be A Hockey Fan In California (Sept 12)

by Matt Reitz on September 12, 2009

“I Might Just Be A Hockey Fan In California” is a feature that will be posted every Saturday here at the View From My Seats. There are plenty of things going on in the hockey world (and even the sports world); and you know everyone has an opinion. This is a place for some quick hits of the week that was.

_______________

I might just be a hockey fan in California, but:

- Someone at the NHL Network should have thought about televising the rookie games from Traverse City instead of replaying the 2008 playoffs. Again.

- Richard Seymour getting traded to the Oakland Raiders would be like—well, are there any NHL teams as dysfunctional as the Raiders? A train wreck personified.

No matter what anyone may tell you, Kopitar is NOT a zombie...

- I feel like I cheated on hockey with college football this weekend. But it felt oh so good. Apparently, I need something in my life that’s more than just baseball. I should feel dirty, but I don’t. Does that make me a bad hockey fan?

- I’m going to go out a limb and say that President Obama had other things on his mind when he met with the Penguins this week.

- The cynic in me wants to see what Phil Kessel’s return to Boston would look like if he signs with another team. So does the optimist in me…

- I wonder how many heart attacks the creditors of Glendale had when Judge Baum said that the team may not have a buyer at the end of the bankruptcy trial.

- Rumors of trades bring out the worst in people. Myself included.

- I know that hockey season is close when people start tweeting with enthusiasm about rookie scrimmages.

- The Rangers are idiots if they think that Brandon Dubinsky should be signed to a 2-way contract. He had a try-out for the US Olympic team, but he might not be able to make the 7th place New York Rangers?

- Mats Sundin can go away now. Thanks.

- I wonder if wives go with the players to the White House to celebrate a Stanley Cup with the President. Do girlfriends? Do puck bunnies? What is the proper cut off?

- I think Blackberries are going to be banned from NHL locker rooms for the upcoming season. Of course, there’s no conflict of interests.

- Why did Michael Jordan have to wait the 5 years to go into the Basketball Hall of Fame? I love that hockey makes exceptions for the TRUE legends.

He can't do anything wrong...

- I still don’t get Versus on DirecTV. This weekend I’m going to miss the Texas/Wyoming game—of course, that’s the real reason why I want Versus back.

- A team that takes a lot of penalties and gives a good penalty killer a tryout is doing the right thing. Philadelphia Flyers, meet Blair Betts.

- I don’t think Mark Whicker of the OC Register likes Twitter and Facebook right now.

- I think Vin Scully could do hockey TOMORROW and be one of the greatest hockey announcers that ever lived.

- Can you imagine if the NHL adopted a BCS style of ranking system that would determine playoff teams? The Southeast Division would get screwed in the strength of schedule department.

- Anze Kopitar does not look like a zombie. He just looks like someone that lives with his parents and doesn’t get enough sleep. But NOT a zombie.

- Ray Ferraro is one of my favorite hockey personalities, period. He makes me laugh, I trust his insight and he makes me want to eat Chicken Parm. Listen for yourself.

- Gary Bettman is a pompous little person that needs to be fired for the good of the game.

So what were your thoughts from the NHL week that was?

Matt Reitz is the Editor-In-Chief here at ViewFromMySeats.com and former NHL Writer for ProHockeyTalk on NBCSports. When he’s not shoving a mic in the face of NHLers or explaining why home teams should wear white, he’s usually trying to figure out what song to play next on his iPod. It’s a never-ending job.

We know you love Gary Bettman! LOL!

I might just be a hockey fan in Southern California, but I sure enjoy reading what this particular fan in Southern California has to say. Great blog!
