Daily Cross Checks
Friday October 9
Who’s playing in the NHL tonight? Where can I find it on TV? When should I turn on the aforementioned TV? Most importantly, should I even bother turning on the TV? Here’s a place to find all the games of the night and talk about them to your hearts content. Don’t worry; tomorrow we’ll start all over. Hockey fans, these are your Daily Cross-Checks.
Florida at Carolina
Time: 4 PM PST
TV: NHLN-CA, FS-F, FS-CR
After almost a week off, the Florida Panthers get to start their North American season on Friday night. Fittingly, they’re opening on the road. Despite leaving Helsinki with a 1-1 record, the coaching staff can’t be happy with the Panthers quality of play in Finland. They’ll look to limit the shots on goal against a Carolina team that has problems of their own. The good thing is that they’re coming off their first win of the season against Tampa. The bad news is they were smoked when they were playing high quality opponents BEFORE the Lightning. Only time will tell if that shootout win against Lecavalier and Company will be viewed as a quality win.
Dallas at Calgary
Time: 6 PM PST
TV: FS-SW, SNET-W (HD)
While the Flames were battling their rivals in Edmonton, the Dallas Stars were just hanging out waiting for them to come home. The Flames get to deal with the second game of a back-to-back situation, while the Stars recover from their shootout loss to Edmonton the night before. Unfortunately for the Flames—every game the Stars have played in has required extra time. In a back-to-back, that would suck.
