I Might Just Be A Hockey Fan In California (Oct 24)

“I Might Just Be A Hockey Fan In California” is a feature that will be posted every Saturday here at the View From My Seats. There are plenty of things going on in the hockey world (and even the sports world); and you know everyone has an opinion. This is a place for some quick hits of the week that was.

_______________

I might just be a hockey fan in California, but:

- It’s a different year, but same story for the New York Islanders. What is the record for least points in a season?

Finally making strides that Kings fans hoped he would...

Finally making strides that Kings fans hoped he would...

- Anze Kopitar is turning the corner from a guy that “has potential to be a superstar one day” to a man that “is a superstar.”

- Baseball is dead to me. Jonathan Broxton killed it.

- I don’t care how close a coach wants his team to be… playing “strip shoot-out” is too much male bonding for me. I’m looking at you Rick Tocchet.

- Injuries are the great equalizer. Bruins fans would agree with me right now.

- James Neal is a really good player. He should promptly be traded out of the Pacific Division (and Western Conference).

- I’m deathly afraid when my back-up goaltender is playing; yet wheefully giddy when my opponent uses THEIR back-up goalie.

- Not even the biggest blowout in the NHL is 59-0. Tennessee Titans: You should be ashamed of yourselves.

- “Kyle Wellwood is so fat” jokes are really funny.

- I think was wrong about the Colorado Avalanche. Really, really wrong.

- The price differential for a pair of tickets in Vancouver compared to Phoenix is obscene. You’d think the Canucks were in first place or something (or that the Coyotes weren’t).

No Marty... you go through the FRONT of the net...

No Marty... you go through the FRONT of the net...

- Preseason basketball might be the biggest waste of time the world has ever seen. Well, since preseason hockey anyway.

- I’m convinced that if the Devils only won 6 games in a season—but those games were against the Rangers—it would be a successful season.

- The Pittsburgh Penguins are good. If this is a Stanley Cup hangover, then God help all of us.

- The Predators were averaging about 1.39 goals per game going into their game at Ottawa. If I were a betting man, I would have bet the farm on the UNDER. Of course, the final score was 6-5. Yet another reason I don’t bet on hockey games.

- It took Evgeny Artyukhin 8 games before we went FULL DUCK and was suspended for 3 games. Honestly, what took him so long?

- I wonder if ANY Islanders fans thought they’d win their game in Montreal after they won their first game of the season against the Hurricanes. I think most were happy with their split (and first win of their season). The beauty of low expectations.

- The Flames have one of the best records in the Western Conference—but it’s their offense that is leading them (not their defense). I didn’t see that coming.

- I’m only waiting about 2 more weeks before I declare the Carolina Hurricanes season a “hopeless freefall.”

- I think the Florida Gators will have more wins in their college football season than the Tampa Bay Lightning or Florida Panthers will have in their 82 game season. Combined.

- Gary Bettman is a pompous little person that needs to be fired for the good of the game.
