VFMS Podcast: Episode 5 (Click To Download)
Episode 5 of the VFMS Podcast is up for your listening pleasure. There are a few different ways to listen. You can either stream the show directly from your computer to your ears at BlogTalkRadio. If you’re into downloading or subscribing to podcasts for your iPod, all you have to do is click the handy iTunes link once you get to the show’s page. And if you want to download it, you can do that too. Of course, you can also bypass the site all together and go straight to iTunes.
In Episode #5, we are joined by Justin from The Goalie Guild (and The Hockey Guild). He gives us some insight into the Hiller vs. Giguere dilemma in Anaheim, the starting goaltender for the Russian Olympic team and the possible future of Manny Fernandez.
“Hiller vs. Jiggy” looks at both goalies, their style, their future (written back in July but dead on so far)
“Rest is a Weapon” looks at goalies and their workload (Evgeni Nabokov, Craig Anderson and Jonathan Quick all mentioned)
Quite possibly, the most important question we could have asked Justin: Who had the best goalie mask of all time? Have you heard of Grattoony the Loony?
This week, we give an extended look to the Los Angeles Kings and their recent slump. It’s always expected for a young team to have their ups-and-downs; but if the Kings truly think they can compete THIS season, they better turn it around in a hurry.
Here’s a great interview with Terry Murray by Rich Hammond where he basically breaks down where the Kings are at right now and what they need to turn it around. It’s long, but VERY insightful: “Sunday Murray Interview”
For any of you that think the Kings might be in the market for a trade to turn things around, Gann Matsuda (FrozenRoyalty.net) sat down with GM Dean Lombardi and discussed that very topic: “The Time To Make A Big Splash May Be Now”
During the podcast, we talk about Terry Murray’s decision to change up the lines to get a reaction out of his team. Did he think that his message was received and it was successful? “Message Sent?”
After the Kings 2-1 heartbreaking loss against the Red Wings, Kingscast.net dropped a VLOG entitled: “Unclutch.” I think they might have wanted to save that title for after the Blues game.
Shifting away from the Kings, we took our weekly look at the Pacific Division and our Three Stars of the Week. Is there really any surprise about the Pacific Division’s #1 Star? “Hiller NHL’s #2 Star of the Week”
Sean Avery Quotes from Last Week’s Stars vs. Rangers Game
Avery: “I was getting paid by two teams”
Marty Turco quote: “I would have liked to see that delinquent do that for us last year. I didn’t think it was possible, really.” –Via Mike Heika for the Dallas Morning News
Mark Crawford on Avery: “He played well tonight, but he had no impact on our guys,” Crawford said of Avery. “You’re giving him far too much credit. Give him credit during Fashion Week.” –Defending Big D
Next week’s show will be at our usual time (8:00 PST / 11:00 EST on Tuesday, January 19th). As usual, we’ll give a snap shot of all the Pacific Division teams. We’ll also take a look at some of our midyear awards for the Pacific Division. Who would win the Calder Trophy of the Pacific Division? Who would win the Norris? Tune in next week to hear who wins our make-believe awards!
