Video: Alex Ovechkin vs Steve Downie (Almost)

by Matt Reitz on January 13, 2010

Alexander Ovechkin is the consensus pick for “Most Exciting Player” in the NHL. He plays with emotion, hits anything that moves and can put the puck in the net better than anyone else in the world. On Tuesday night, we ALMOST got to find out if he could fight as well. Thanks a lot Matt Bradley. You suck.

For his part, Ovechkin was standing up for himself at the end of the game. He didn’t jump Steve Downie at the end of a shift or when his back was turned—so I’ll give him that. But for every Caps fan that was excited to see him throw the fists, there was another Caps fan PRAYING to the Hockey Gods that he didn’t hurt himself.

For anyone that missed it—here’s the fight from last night. Matt Bradley got about 7982734 penalty minutes for his efforts.

When he’s not shoving a mic in the face of NHLers or explaining why home teams should wear white, he’s usually trying to figure out what song to play next on his iPod. It’s a never-ending job.
